ESA CCI: Climate Change Initiatives

Europe/London

Global Climate Observation: the road to the future 2-4 March, Amsterdam

Climate observations are essential for understanding the complexities of the global climate system, indeed virtually all breakthroughs that have been made in understanding climate have come from observations. This is why it is crucial to make further progress towards achieving a fully implemented, sustainable, global observing system for climate.

Call for PKN, Parhaat Nettikasinot Project Management Positions

Call for PKN, Parhaat Nettikasinot Project Management Positions

There’s a new call for Parhaat Nettikasinot Research Project Proposal (PKN) now open.

The main objective of this new project is to provide better solutions for online casinos that are using some of the most latest satellites to ensure their daily operations. Skills that the project requires are for instance project management, engineering and customer service. The applicants do not need to be stars in every field since there are many opening positions within this project. The project will make use of the satellite data available, creating new innovations and networks for online casinos. This is a groundbreaking experiment which, when successful, can change the way people and businesses use satellite data. The project is expected to start on 10th of September. Applicants are being reviewed already.

Call for CCI Postdoctoral Positions

Call for CCI Postdoctoral Positions

The second Call for Research Proposals of the Living Planet Fellowship under the Climate Change Initiative (CCI) is now open.

The main objective of this initiative is to provide support to young researchers who have a doctoral degree and who would like to initiate a scientific career in the context of Earth Observation, Earth science and climate research. Candidate researchers shall submit research proposals addressing either or both of the following themes:

Living Planet Symposium

Europe/London

Living Planet Symposium

ESA's Earth Observation conference - the Living Planet Symposium - is to be held from 9 - 13 May in Prague, Czech Republic. It will provide an opportunity to discuss the progress made in all branches of Earth observation and present the relevance of ESA's EO Programme to societal challenges, science and economy.

CCI Open Data Portal

CCI Open Data Portal - take our survey

What do you need from an Open Data Portal, delivering Essential Climate Variables from satellite data? Please take our survey so we can provide you with the best access to data and tools.

This survey forms part of a larger activity whose objective is to develop an Open Data Portal to provide a central point of harmonised access to mature Essential Climate Variable (ECV) datasets produced as part of ESA’s Climate Change Initiative (CCI) programme.

Online Course - Climate from Space

Free online course: Monitoring climate from space

The European Space Agency have teamed up with Future Learn to put together a five week course on Monitoring Climate from Space. The course brings together leading experts and scientists from ESA and key European research centres, to explore the science that underpins Earth observation. Members of the Climate Change Initiative teams are involved to help bring the research done within the CCI programme to a wider audience.

The course looks at recent and current satellite missions that are providing an archive of essential data; and find out how this data is used in local and international policy and planning.

The course starts on the 8th June; to watch the trailer and register to take part, go to the Future Learn website.
